·A bill that would allow state attorneys to sue social media platforms for features that harm children has passed in California’s Senate Judiciary Committee. In a version of the bill that passed the state Assembly in May, parents would be able to sue social media companies for harm to their children with a minimum $1,000 payout for a claimant in class-action lawsuits. However, after lobbying from business and tech-industry groups, the bill was amended so only government attorneys could file the lawsuits.
